Elementary School Assembly

"Find Your Power, Find Your Genius" is a power-packed school assembly which is appropriate for students in every elementary school grade level. It is fun! It is exciting! It is entertaining! But more importantly, it has a message that every child needs to hear.
Every child holds the power right now to succeed both in school and in life.

"Our students and teachers were very impressed with your positive and powerful message! Thank you so much for sharing your story and your message with us!"

-Sharon Ainsworth, Principal
South Shaver Elementary School
Pasadena, TX

We often hear that all children can succeed but we rarely hear evidence to support this belief.
"Find Your Power, Find Your Genius" provides this evidence!

If you want to give your students a program they will remember for a very long time, a program that will help meet your school's
goal of promoting high achievement and self-determination, a program that will improve diversity awareness
then "Find Your Power, Find Your Genius" is the program you want!

Students who will benefit from this program are students who:
1. need to be challenged to aim even higher
2. give up before completing the task
3. become discouraged when they experience failure
4. are teased for being different
5. waste precious energy focusing on problems rather than solutions
6. need to see their uniqueness as a gift
7. have a disability, either physical or learning
8. need to discover and use the power they possess

This school assembly will feature three powers that is inside each and every child. Once students learn to
discover and use their power they will

  • aim for higher academic achievement
  • take more responsibility for their behavior management
  • create a safer school environment as diversity awareness is promoted

"What I learned from Ms. Shugart is that you can do anything in the world if you believe in yourself".

-Kirsten, age 9

The three powers which will be featured in this dynamic program are:
1. The Power of Perception- How attitude affects outcome
2. The Power of Aiming High- Challenge yourself to go farther than most believe to be possible
3. The Power of Persistence- You might fail but you must never give up

Believe me, I know what I'm talking about! After going blind at age eight, I was frustrated, angry, rebellious, and
wanted to just give up.
I will tell students how I found my power which, in turn, led me to find my genius!
I went from wanting to give up to having an absolute determination that I would make my dream of becoming a teacher come true.
How, the students and teachers will wonder, could this happen? Did my eyesight change?
No, that remained the same.
I tell students and teachers exactly how I did it!
Using magic tricks to grab their attention I show how my dream "disappeared".
I show how many people thought I had "nothing" inside me after I went blind but "I did have something" as emphasized in another magic trick.
That something is the power that is inside me and it is the same power that is inside every child, every teacher, every parent, every single person in this world!
Students and teachers will be entertained, will be amused, will be surprised, but most of all, they will be inspired to believe they can achieve
more than they first thought possible.
I did this in my own life! After graduating from high school I did something that no one in my family had ever done-
I went to college.
I earned my Bachelor of Music Degree from North Texas State University and my Master of Music Degree from Sam Houston State University.
Told I would never be able to teach in the public schools because of my blindness, I proved those doubters wrong and went on to have a
very successful 21-year teaching career in the Austin Independent School District in Austin, Texas.

"Very inspiring to all. Thank you, Nancy!"

-Sherry Meynier, Principal
Parks Elementary School
Pasadena, TX

"Find Your Power, Find Your Genius" is more than just a motivational program for students. As I share my personal story with
fun and entertainment, I provide living proof that all kids can succeed! People cannot see
the power we possess. But that power is inside each one of us.

The list is endless of children who did not appear to have much but, as an adult, achieved incredible success;
from engineers to educators,
from family physicians to neurosurgeons,
from Olympic gold-medalists to professional athletes,
from scientists and inventors to authors and artists,
and from leaders of businesses to leaders of nations.

Photo of Guide Dog Luke

I will have my guide dog, Luke, with me on stage. Luke is a beautiful and gentle Golden Retriever who plays an
important role in my life.
He is intelligent, hard working, and, like people, must stay focused on his job in order to be successful.
An added benefit of this program is that your students will be introduced to the valuable role a service animal plays in the life of a
person with a disability. They will also develop an important understanding of the correct etiquette they should follow when they
encounter a service animal.

"What I learned was that people with disabilities are not that different. They do the same things just with the disability, but that doesn't make them different".

-Zack, age 10

But there's more. Repetition is the mother of skill. Students retain what they have learned if they practice it, study it, and live it.
So, after the assembly is over, teachers may print out a five-day course from this website which they may have
students complete individually or as a class project. Each lesson has five questions which tests the
student's memory and understanding of the main points of the assembly.
The answers are provided with an explanation and review of that main point.
Each lesson concludes with an assignment which may be completed as a written assignment or as a class discussion.

What you get when you book right NOW:

  • a 50-minute assembly appropriate for every elementary school grade level
  • Living proof that all kids can succeed
  • entertainment, amusement, and inspiration for both students and teachers
  • an easy to understand formula for success
  • disability awareness
  • an education about service animals
  • a follow-up five-day course for teachers to use to reinforce the learning that occurred during the assembly

What you get in the five-day course:

  • Five short lessons teachers can print from www.provethemwrong.com
  • Questions (answers included) for each lesson to test the student's understanding of the material
  • a short assignment with each lesson which teachers may use as a class discussion or to have students practice their writing skills

Of course, the question you want answered right now is "How much will this program cost per school?"
I want to make this program affordable so every school in the United States can bring this to their students.
For this reason, this high energy and powerful educational school assembly along with the follow-up five-day course is offered for the low price of
$525 for a half day (1-2 shows)
or
$1,000 for a full day (3-4 shows)
Full days can be split between nearby schools (in district or out) at no additional charge. Each school then only pays
$500 for their half-day!

See chart below for full-day requirements plus travel fee. Take special note of how you can have the cab fare waived for your school!

Note: The Texas Department of Public Safety refuses to allow me to drive (lol) for the simple reason that I am blind!
So below is a very cost effective way to get me from Austin to where you are. The travel fee will be split among all schools
in your area/district who have me booked during the same week as you do.
Yes, I know what you're thinking and you're right! (smile)
The more schools to split this travel fee the lower the travel fee per school!
Where cab fare is applicable, you may have the cab fare waived by simply finding someone at your school who can drive me to your school or drive me to the next school. It's that simple!
So here are the numbers!

Travel Fee
Travel Fee Location Required Minimum # of Full Days
Cab Fare Austin, Texas No minimum required
Cab fare Schools outside Austin but within the Region 13 Educational Service Area No minimum required
$100 per day + cab fare Outside Region 13 but inside Texas 2 full days required
$200 per day + cab fare All states outside Texas 3 full days required

All schools benefit by saving money when more schools split the travel fee.
Here are two tips on how you can get the word out to other schools.
1. Consider sending an email out to all the elementary, middle, and high schools in your district. Give them the link to this website (www.provethemwrong.com) and encourage them to visit the site and read about the assembly appropriate for their school level. Possible key people to contact at these schools would be:

  • PTA/PTO Presidents
  • Principals
  • Assistant Principals
  • Librarians
  • Counselors

2. Consider speaking at a principal's, librarian's, counselor's, or PTA/PTO meeting and provide information about the assemblies. Take down names of those who are interested and follow up with a phone call or email to select the dates that would work for all of you.

If you have any questions or to begin scheduling this program for your school, please contact me.
